Villaboard: Protecting the interior of your building
The importance of choosing the correct interior lining.
When we think of protecting our homes or business premises, we immediately think about the exterior of the building. The interior of our buildings is just as important to protect as the exterior. That’s where Villaboard comes in.
Fibre cement is a great weapon in fighting many unwanted problems. These include pest invasions, moisture build-up, rot and to protect against the spread of fire. Choosing Villaboard for interior linings helps keep our building safe, healthy and preserve structural integrity.
Consequently, Villaboard is one of the most installed linings in building and construction today. The lifespan of your building relies somewhat on choosing the correct internal lining material. Villaboard producers guarantee the product to stand the test of time when installed and maintained correctly.
The versatile fibre cement solution.
Villaboard is a fibre cement sheet product. James Hardie makes Villaboard in a variety of lengths and thicknesses. Obviously other manufacturers such as CSR and BGC make their own fibre cement sheeting, just named differently.
James Hardie’s Villaboard provides modern and flexible options to any building design. Potential uses include countless applications in a residential, commercial and industrial setting. It presents a chance to finish the building with your own dazzling creativity.
As well as making your interior look fantastic, Villaboard ensures it will be durable as well. Villaboard made from high-grade cellulose fibre, sand, quality cement and water. Therefore, it is strong and low maintenance. Villaboard is also resistant to fire, termites, moisture damage and rotting. That’s why it is the preferred internal lining over other linings when low maintenance is required. Great examples of this are the walls and ceilings in high moisture areas and in high -traffic areas.
When and why to use Villaboard?
Villaboard is rigid and durable. Bathrooms and wet areas are all ideal places to install Villaboard. You can tile directly over it. Furthermore, it is highly resistant to damage, especially in 9mm format. 9mm is common in schools and housing commission. This is due to its high durability.
Villaboard mainly shows its worth in bathrooms to hold the weight of tiles, taps, mirrors and shower screens. This is due to its fibre cement properties. It comes in different sizes and thickness to suit different applications. Generally speaking, though the following is most commonly used:
- 6mm- Residential applications
- 9mm- Commercial applications
- 12mm- Heavy-duty applications (such as industrial settings)
Villaboard: Made especially for wet areas.
Villaboard is the perfect alternative to plasterboard in wet areas. Manufacturers use premium quality fibre cement board to produce it. Furthermore, this product’s design is especially for use in areas receiving excess moisture like laundries, bathrooms and kitchens.
Fibre cement will not deform or lose structural integrity when exposed to moisture. This is because manufacturing ensures equally high resistance to moisture damage throughout the entirety of the sheet. Therefore even if the sheets suffer exposure to moisture the sheets will not deform, rot, or lose structural integrity.
Therefore, Villaboard is a smart alternative to other products in wet areas. It decreases the potential for mould growth, increases tile adhesion and greatly reduces maintenance costs and callbacks.
High traffic areas.
Another way to keep maintenance costs to a minimum is to use Villaboard in high traffic areas. All wall linings are prone to wear and tear from knocks, bumps, small holes, abrasions and scraping. The more traffic an area gets, the more prone to damage it is. Garages and hallways are a perfect example.
Villaboard is more impact resistant than its counterparts such as plasterboard. As such it is very suitable for high traffic applications in commercial, domestic and industrial settings. Other applications include theatres, schools and other public and government applications. Hallways are a popular application for this product in many settings.
Villaboard: For Durability and Fire Resistance.
Villaboard is non-combustible. Accordingly, it is popular in both fire and acoustic wall and ceiling systems. In fact, Villaboard has a fire rating up to 60 minutes when correctly installed as part of a fire-rated system.
Villaboard has an impressive bond strength and can hold tiles up to 60 kilograms per square metre. This is because of its uniform composition, which consequently gives greater tile adhesion. It goes without saying then that Villaboard has much greater tensile bond strength that other products, including plasterboard. In fact, its bond strength is up to 75% greater than that of wet area plasterboard when dry. This increases to 300% greater when wet. Pretty impressive I would say.
This becomes crucial when you need hanging power for tiles, hooks and fixings. Villaboard can hold tiles up to 50kg a square meter! Knowing how expensive beautiful tiles can be, perhaps we should make sure they are secure. We do not want them dropping off the wall.
Villaboard’s Simple Installation.
Villaboard is also easy and simple to install. It is suitable for use on either timber or light gauge steel framed buildings. Just cut the board and fix. Then gun-nail to timber frames or screw to light gauge steel frames. Then you are ready to paint, wallpaper or tile to give your own personal finish to the space.
Please note that safety is of paramount importance in any project. Hence our advice to please check out our safety advice segment at the end of this article.
The sophisticated look of Villaboard.
Villaboard is a durable impact, water and fire-resistant wall lining. This means you can finish your space in your choice of décor. After installation, you can either paint, tile or even wallpaper to finish off the project. Your completed project will display that personal touch of class and individuality.
The flat sheets have long edges recessed for flush jointing. When sanded, this fibre cement gives the perfect blank canvas your choice of design options. The smooth, seamless joints and negative details provide a professional plastered look to your veranda ceilings, eaves and soffits.
Villaboard for Soffit Linings.
You want to look after the significant investment you have made in your home or commercial property. Accordingly, you should consider fibre cement soffit linings. Villaboard gives a seamless effect because of the modular concealed fixings. After painting, you will have a smooth plastered look that will preserve the integrity of your building.
Other applications and benefits of using Villaboard
- Excellent Acoustic Performance: Villaboard can control sound transmission. It is suitable for use in acoustic rated systems and has a density of 350kg/m3.
- Use as bracing: This product shows its diversity as bracing on buildings up to and including high wind zones areas. Trimline Interiors always checks Australian standards to ensure all projects comply with legislation.
- Warranty: Manufacturers of Villaboard provide an impressive 15year guarantee on their product. That is a sure “plus” for any product.
You need to refer to recommended safe working practices before commencing any project and before using any product. Villaboard is no exception. In fact, it is especially important when using Villaboard.
The reason for this lies in the fact that Villaboard contains sand. Sand is a source of breathable crystalline silica. Simply put, breathing in dust from Villaboard may cause serious damage to your lungs. Such impairment includes a disabling and sometimes fatal lung condition called silicosis.
To avoid such problems Trimline Interiors strictly adheres to all safety protocols. We adhere to Safe Work Method Statements and manufacturer’s guidelines and advice on all projects. As company policy, we always use our professional equipment. This includes personally fitted breathing apparatus in conjunction with state-of-the-art vacuum systems for dust collection.
The team at Trimline Interiors have all completed professional training to safely install fibre cement. Villaboard is completely safe once the tradesmen install it correctly. This is because the risks apply only to the installation process.
The team at Trimline Interiors commonly attend call-outs for repairs to Villaboard ceilings. We find the main cause of these ceiling failures in an incorrect installation. If you need a ceiling repair, consider calling in the ceiling specialists, Trimline Interiors. In other words, you should call “Tyson – the Villaboard guru”.
